Japanese Kokeshi dolls are handmade from wood, have a simple trunk and head with painted lines to define the face. These dolls were originally made during the middle of the Edo period (1600-1868).
To celebrate this ancient craft, Becky Kemp of Sketch.Inc has created a collection of Kokeshi dolls modeled after famous characters. She opted to retain the doll’s main characteristics when creating her modern version of Kokeshi – including an oversized head, stylized face and straightforward silhouette.
The wooden dolls are almost 6 inches tall, perfect for any setting, from office desk to a dollhouse. To know more about Kemp’s creations, you may check her Instagram account.
