Recently, Dutch street artists Jan Is De Man and Deef Feed created a trompe l’oeil mural bookcase on an apartment building in Utrecht, Netherlands.
“The first idea was to paint a smiley. A very big smiley. Because I believe people become more happy when they see a smiley every day. But this idea didn’t feel complete, it felt too simple,” he told Bored Panda.
After studying the canvas, the idea of making a gigantic bookcase came about as “visual illusion in art, especially as used to trick the eye into perceiving a painted detail as a three-dimensional object.” De Man loves making illusions on walls and making people happy, so this idea could probably bring this all together.
“All local residents and people involved have been allowed to hand in their favorite book and we (Deef Feed and I) have incorporated this into this mural,” according to his website.
Since the mural has been revealed to the public, it has become an artistic source to bring the neighbors together and for others to appreciate the incredible painting.
