Blanca Gómez had a knack for arts and crafts from a very young age, with her first illustrations dedicated to her mom. But it took her some time before she came back full circle to her creative beginnings. “I had worked for almost 10 years as a graphic designer,” recalled the Madrid-based illustrator in an interview with Freelance Wisdom. “I liked the job, yet during those last months I was feeling stuck, and I needed a change.”
After being stuck for some time, she looked for a fresh start by exploring her initial passion for illustration. “Illustration crossed my graphic designer path,” she sais. “After taking some time to learn and self-teach, I started showing my work on the internet, and bit by bit, I started getting some collaborations and even some small jobs, but I never thought I could earn a living exclusively off of this work.”
With the financial crisis looming on the horizon and her design studio cutting expenses, she felt the time for change was that exact moment. And scrolling through her Instagram page, it seems like her new career choice was the right one. Her illustrations – quirky, childlike, and very much joyful – are a breath of fresh air that is very much welcome.
