If you’ve ever been told you look like your favorite celebrity, you’re not alone, but would you sign up for a celebrity lookalike contest? If the answer is “yes”, you’ll be happy to hear these events are suddenly everywhere, gathering doppelgängers of such stars as Timothée Chalamet and Jeremy Allen White in one place.
Internet’s obsession with celebrity lookalike contests started in October when all hell broke loose at a Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest in New York. The event had to be moved to a different location after attracting huge crowds, and one of the people in attendance was the Dune star himself.
This trend continued in the weeks to come, and a recent Jeremy Allen White contest in Chicago attracted almost as much notoriety. Dozens of young men (and women!) rocked chef’s aprons and white t-shirts inspired by the actor’s character from The Bear, competing for a symbolic $50 prize and a pack of cigarettes, as a nod to Carmy Berzatto.
Celebrity lookalike contests took place everywhere from London to San Francisco and paid homage to the likes of Dev Patel, Paul Mescal, and Zayn Malik. They were mostly inspired by male celebrities, but that’s no longer the case after the announcements for Zendaya and Rachel Sennott lookalike contests made the rounds online, making us wonder what the future holds for this rising trend.
