It’s a new decade and we feel like updating our fashion game. No more fast, disposable fashion, that will end up in landfills. This year, we’re looking for some statement pieces that will last. Alex Steel’s wearable art is a good place to start.
Hand involved from start to finish with each of her pieces (whether it’s fabric dyeing, painting or printing), her items are sold as part of limited editions. Her collection includes dungarees, dresses, shoes, and even jewelry, all meant to boost your confidence (and style).
“Since I am making everything by hand, I remain close to my collection because each piece undoubtedly has its own unique variation,” she explained in an interview with Rue Magazine. “Also, because of all the different mediums I work with, I am able to go back and forth between materials and processes to break up some of the repetition.”
“I started out painting shirts with bleach as a fun craft that quickly grew into a production of painting designs in multiples,” she recalled. “I focused my background in fine art towards creating art that you can wear because it was important to me to make art a daily expression. I believe dressing yourself to feel like you are actually wearing a piece of art promotes confidence.”
With more than 10k followers on Instagram, you’d want to join in the hype.
