Lily Kong’s illustrations are bright, colorful, and incredibly cheerful. With a clear goal in mind – to bring joy and happiness through her work – her art is a sort of recipe for smiles. In fact, we dare you not to smile when scrolling through her Instagram page. “Making happy things is the goal of my work,” said the London-based illustrator and graphic designer in an interview with Ohh Deer. “So I would say my Illustration style is happy, random and atmospheric.”
Each piece begins with an observation. “I observe people in a personal way by drawing them, so I stare at my friends for a bit and sometimes exaggerate their muscles and plumpness,” she says. “I believe seeing and drawing things rounder make viewers happier.”
“I am always inspired by activities that interact with people, such as moving human bodies, which catch my attention all the time,” she added. “The movement and the curves in their arms form different shapes and lines, which are all very fascinating. I don’t really care about their face or their identity so I add no details other than identical smiley faces. Marshmallow babies allow me to interact with body shapes and figures.”
Indeed, her works are naive and playful which ensures a joyful effect. Here are some of our favorite illustrations by her.
