María Luque’s is known for her naive style of illustration, painted with bold colors and striking contrasts. “I like to draw, and I draw a lot,” reads her bio. “I like to make people laugh with my drawing, or at least make them smile,” she adds.
Based in Argentina, Luque remembers drawing ever since she was very little and haven’t stopped since. “I think there is a connection between how I used to draw when I was little and the way I do now,” she admitted in an interview with Creative Boom, “at least in the attitude. I used to love drawing with my friends and it’s something I still do nowadays. I went to art school, studied there for a few years and I learned a lot, but in the end I dropped out.”
Her method seemed to have worked out for the best. With almost 70k followers on Instagram, Luque is a force to be reckoned with, within the art scene. “I’m still learning everyday, especially from my friends and colleagues,” she says. Her work is also informed by other artists, and Luque admits she feels an affinity with artists like Matisse, Marina Abramović, and David Hockney. “I also love art history and I’m very curious about artists’ lives,” she says.
