Naptime Doodler’s Food Illustrations Pay Homage to Your Favorite Anime

If you love anime and delicious treats in equal measure, Naptime Doodler’s illustrations will be a real treat for your eyes. She’s drawing adorable anime-themed versions of our favorite sweet treats, mostly inspired by Pokémon and the Studio Ghibli films.

Naptime Doodler was founded by Debby Tam, a talented illustrator from San Jose, California. Her illustrations are as adorable as it gets and we’ve seen her transform them into everything from stickers and washi tapes to greeting cards and keychains.

Tam started sharing her illustrations on Instagram in 2020, and she opted for the name Naptime Doodler for a reason. She was a new mom who left the corporate world to spend more time with her baby and started drawing while her son was napping in an attempt to unwind, relax, and work on her passion.

Anime movies and cartoons are very clearly her main source of inspiration. She became an Instagram sensation thanks to her illustrations inspired by such Studio Ghibli classics as My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Howl’s Moving Castle, but she also enjoys paying homage to other beloved anime, especially Pokémon.

In addition to being a love letter to her favorite anime characters, Tam’s illustrations are often inspired by food, from Pokémon-shaped ice cream cones to Totoro and Jiji taking the form of burgers, macarons, and popsicles.
