No One Shows Up for Author’s Book Signing, Social Media Users Respond with Overwhelming Support

Social media sure has its downsides, but it also has the potential to spark amazing things and change people’s lives. That’s exactly what happened to book author Agnes Hyun-In Lee.

Lee recently organized a book signing event for her first-ever book titled Who Took My Stuff at a bookstore in Corona, California. She was eager to promote her work and meet with fellow book lovers, but there was only one issue: no one showed up despite her sitting there for hours.

One of the bookstore workers recorded the video of Lee waiting for someone to approach her and posted it on TikTok.

“i literally hate this shift. we have an author today. it’s her first book and nobody has gone up to her. I have to watch this for 5 hrs. my heart is breaking,” the staffer wrote added in the video that received more than 10 million views.

After the video went viral, social media users responded with overwhelming support. Lee’s book started flying off the shelves and eventually sold out, while her TikTok account went from having a couple of thousand followers to 33.4K.

Lee later shared a video of her own, saying that she was ready to quit her career after the failed book signing but that the support and love she received from social media made her change her mind.
