Paintings Emerge from Giant Paintbrushes in the Works of Julien Durix

Paintbrushes are integral to the art, but we rarely see them get the spotlight and often only witness their results. French artist Julien Durix decided to change that by making them part of his artworks.

Durix creates intriguing pieces known as “paintbrushes sculptures” in which paintings emerge from giant paintbrushes. They are made in such a way that it appears just one swoop of the paintbrush was needed for an entire image to show up.

His paintbrushes sculptures feature an array of different subjects. Sometimes, they depict detailed and captivating depictions of Geishas, while other times, they feature pop-culture characters, animals, and even street art elements.

Durix says that he was raised in “an artistic environment” since early childhood and decided to dedicate himself fully to art at the age of 21. He likes to feature protagonists from his childhood in his works while also enjoying mixing eras and characters that don’t have anything in common at first glance.

“He paints as he breathes, and he invites us to join him in this world full of colors where he gives free rein to his overflowing imagination,” it says on the artist’s website.
