Pokémon trading cards are among the most popular collecting items in existence, being beloved by both adults and kids for their beautiful artwork. Additionally, The Pokémon Company, which produces the trading cards, is always looking for new ways and ideas to keep their releases exciting.
Recently, The Pokémon Company decided to take an unexpected route and team up with chef Natsuko Shoji, the owner of Tokyo’s famous été. Shoji was tasked with making a new artwork for Evee card, becoming the first chef in the world to do so.
Shoji’s illustration was inspired by a tart desert she created, which consists of hexagon-shaped fruit fitted together for an aesthetically pleasing experience. In her illustration, Evee appears as Stellar Tera-type Pokémon against a backdrop of the tart desert.
“This is the first moment in the history of Pokémon that a chef has created art for Pokémon cards,” Shoji shared about the collaboration. “I believe that Japanese ingredients themselves are world-class art and as beautiful as jewelry. Through this tie-up, I feel that its brilliance has been further enhanced.”
Shoji-designed Evee card will be part of the upcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion titled Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions. The expansion will be released worldwide in January 2025.
