Much like art, when it comes to makeup, the possibilities are endless. Eszter Domonkos knows best. The self-taught makeup artist creates unique looks, focusing mainly on the eyes (and eyelids). To create her original looks, Domonkos utilizes not only her makeup brushes, but also unorthodox materials, such as gummy bears and play-doh. The end result is both playful and fashionable. Because whoever said fashion should play it safe?
“I’ve always had an obsession with eyes, I just think they are beautiful,” said Domonkos in an interview with Office. “Since I was really young I always used to draw eyes all over my exercise books in school during my classes. Another reason is that my makeup looks are really ‘messy’ and all over the place so I want there still to be some kind of order.”
Inspired by artists David Bowie, Tilda Swinton, and Grimes, her creative process is as “messy” as the makeup looks themselves. “It’s always different,” she explained. “Sometimes I already know what colors I want to use but I have no idea what shape to create, and sometimes it’s the other way round. I usually just sit down in front of my mirror, pick up a brush, and do whatever feels right at the moment.”
