Alexandra Kehayoglou is a visual artist from Buenos Aires, who works mainly with textile materials. She promotes the beauty of Argentinian landscapes through her stunning wool rug designs.

Each functional artwork features hand-tufted woolen textures that characterize her country’s beautiful sceneries. Her work is not only for aesthetics, but a call for environmental awareness. It is a protest against deforestation, devastation and extinction of the wilderness.

In 2016, Kehayoglou created a masterpiece called No Longer Creek, inspired by the Raggio Creek near the artist’s home that was recently demolished by the construction of a shopping mall. Another large-scale work titled, Santa Cruz River (2017), was developed to highlight her critical vision of a disappearing landscape, and premonition of a future destruction of one of the most significant glacial rivers in South America.

The pieces are made with surplus materials from her family’s industrial carpet factory, which has been in the business for more than sixty years. Kehayoglou then transforms the wool scraps into amazing carpets that celebrate the beauty of the country’s grasslands and rivers.
