]]>Golann designs and creates all sorts of intriguing wood pieces ranging from chairs to brushes, brooms, and candle holders. Her pieces often feature quirky design solutions like a wavy wooden spoon, five brooms that share a single handle, and a double-loop brush.
According to Golann, who has been trained as a as a 17th-19th century woodworker, both function and aesthetics play a great part in her designs.
“I find that function often suggests a starting point—like a place to put the hand, a type of anticipated movement, or an expected lifespan of the object,” Golann shared in a recent chat with Colossal.
Golann also runs a non-profit organization The Chairmaker’s Toolbox that aims to foster “access and equity in the field of chairmaking.” Since 2020, when the organization was founded, Golann partnered with a large number of museums, schools, and chairmakers to help woodworkers get necessary training and supplies.
