]]>“My inspiration comes from cycles of nature that I associate with glass making process because to me the material is at it’s most alive when it’s hot and being transformed, “McGarva explains on her official website. “The end result is solid and doesn’t move any longer, it is at the fragile time before disintegration and maintains a dynamic form and rich structures such as dry leaves, feathers or sea shells.”
While crafting her sculptures, McGarva relies on various techniques to achieve unique aesthetics. This includes molding glass by hand and using kiln cast, blown glass, and fused sheet glass, among others.
Due to the nature of her creative process, McGarva’s glass sculptures come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. The artist also uses a combination of different-colored glass, making the pieces even more captivating.

]]>These sculptures look like they were formed by a glass web and appear in various forms ranging from human figures to birds and insects. Saito uses both colored and see-through glass, adding another layer of visual appeal to her works.
To create her pieces, Saito uses a unique technique that she describes as “stringer work.” According to the artist, this technique “adds artistry and delicacy to contemporary glass woven work.” It involves stretching and weaving borosilicate glass and results in “breathtakingly beautiful” works while also allowing her to “express an elegant worldview.”
Besides creating large-scale sculptures, Saito also uses “stringer work” to create smaller pieces and jewelry like earrings and necklaces.
“All works are created with the underlying theme of “breathtaking,” Saito explains on her website.

]]>Each of Young’s sculptures is completely handmade. He begins the process with a drawing, then cuts the glass by hand and laminates layer by layer in order to get the desired form.
“I do a lot of thinking before I even start to draw or cut,” – says Young.
This is a complicated and long process causing Young to adapt as the artwork is being created.
“I work with 2D shapes and have to figure out how to translate that into a 3D finished piece. Sometimes my starting point changes dramatically as I have to find a way to layer the glass to create certain shapes.” – he adds.
All the effort is well worth it, however, as the finished pieces look stunning. Check out some of them below.
