]]>Joccum Art founder describes Pokémon as an integral part of his upbringing, and they’ve been by his side for years. He spent countless hours watching the beloved cartoon on TV and eagerly anticipated each new Game Boy game that he used to get for his birthday.
Despite his deep love for Pokémon, he started working on his Renaissance-style paintings as a happy accident, and he’s planning to make many more.
“This journey started rather unassumingly – as I was waiting for an oil painting of my cat to dry, inspiration struck. I found myself giving Pikachu a Renaissance makeover, and before I knew it, I was deep into the creation of the original 151 Pokémon, each with a unique classical flair,” he writes on his official website.
Van der Woude immortalized several Pokémon in the Renaissance style, including Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. It will take a while before he catches ‘em all in oil on canvas because he still has a full-time job and can’t complete more than two paintings per week.
