Britney Tokyo’s nail art compliments her flamboyant personality. Not one to shy away from making a fashion statement, her style is a fusion of Japanese and American styles, attracting clients as big as the Kardashian clan, Rita Ora, and Ariana Grande. A former actress and TV personality herself, her nail career took off thanks to SNS, the Japanese Social Networking Service.

“Even now, I receive most of my business inquiries through my Instagram,” admitted Tokyo in an interview with Racked. Born in Tokyo and currently residing in LA, she’s continuously inspired by fashion, music, and art, with her nail art being a colorful mishmash of sorts.

“I’ve always been surrounded by art, and loved to draw since I was a little girl,” says Tokyo. “I went to nail school, but it’s only been like three years since I’ve really sunk into the nails world. I started during the same time that nail art started to become a thing. I’ve always been lucky with timing for a lot of things, so I’m very thankful.”

Working for and with the best of the best, Tokyo has a nonchalant, down to earth approach when it comes to her celebrity clientele. “I usually never get nervous for any celebrities I do nails for,” she admits. “I am a freelance nailist, without residing in an agency, so usually the celebrities contact me directly. Since they already know my work that makes it easier for me to work on them.”

Jessica Washick is, arguably, the coolest gal on Instagram. A nail artist on top of being a fashion designer, her official job title at Nike is “Senior Color Designer,” so you know her Instagram page is gonna be eye-popping, to say the least.

According to Washick, she first started painting her nails in 2007 after a tough break-up, sharing her nail art in her blog titled “You Don’t Need A Man, You Need A Manicure.” She went on to study fashion design in Parsons, which ultimately lead her to her dream job at Nike.

“I’ve always wanted to design at Nike, but as I got deeper and deeper into fashion and the nail world, I didn’t know how I could contribute since my background was in accessory design and nails,” she relayed in an interview with HYPEBAE. “One day, I went onto the Nike career website and saw an opening for a color designer. There’s a lot of color obsession in doing nails so I knew I’d be able to leverage those skills, and I believed my background in accessory design could amplify that. I actually showed my nail art portfolio for part of the interview and they were receptive. That was really cool.”

With a clear passion for color, Washick doesn’t shy from making a bold statement, with her designs being often vibrant as they are playful. “Colors play a huge role because they evoke emotion, and a good color story can take you places,” she reflects. Follow her Instagram page for that extra dose of color.

When it comes to nail art, Simcha Whitehill, aka Miss Pop, doesn’t shy away from colors and patterns. Based in NYC, she jokingly refers to her style as “Back to the Future” and judging by her Instagram page, it’s easy to see why, as her eye-popping designs are very clearly inspired by ’80s aesthetics.

“I like to create a retro look full of bold colors and prints that still incorporates current trends to amp up classic styles,” she shared in an interview with Style Caster. “Of course, since nails are my fave accessory, to match all that shimmer, I’ve been bejeweling my toes too with metallic gold and silver polish. Plus, I line my bottom lash with silver so my eyes have extra twinkle too. I’m not exactly an au natural kind of girl, so especially in the summer when my usual makeup just melts right off, a little sweat-proof glam beauty makes me feel done up.”

With almost 50k followers on Instagram as well as features in fashion magazines such as Elle and Marie Claire and runway shows during New York Fashion Week – you might just want to follow her lead. Here are some of our favorite looks by her:

Looking for your next nail art inspiration? Why not go straight to the source. Madeline Poole is arguably the queen of nails. So much so that in 2014 she was officially appointed as the Global Color Ambassador of the American beauty brand Sally Hansen. Aside from that, she also shares her tips and tricks through nail art tutorials, that can be viewed on Vogue.com, TeenVogue.com, Refinery29, The Coveteur, and IntoTheGloss.

Her original take on nail art has also made her some of an internet celebrity, with almost 135k followers on Instagram. Poole also shares her tips and tricks through nail art tutorials, that can be viewed on Vogue.com, TeenVogue.com, Refinery29, The Coveteur, and IntoTheGloss.

“I am a color enthusiast,” she said in an interview with The Cut. “But to be honest, I only like to wear white, red, or occasionally orange on my nails. So I don’t ever force people to wear [crazy] nail colors because I totally understand a preference for a classic. Because I’m so colorful in my wardrobe, I prefer to wear very basic nail colors so I don’t go over the edge.”

“I will always and forever love a leopard print,” she adds. “That’s also one of the easiest nail designs to start with. Organic shapes are always easier to do as they’re basically just a series of squiggles and dots.” But her designs go much further than a series of squiggles and dots. Take a look for yourself!

Eun Kyung Park challenges our ideas about nail art (and beauty in general), playing with textures, shape, and colors, transforming in turn, her clients’ hands into contemporary pieces of art. Based in Seoul, her clients include K-Pop artists, high-profile social media influencers, and models at Seoul Fashion Week; with her nail art being featured in top tier fashion publications like Vogue and Refinery29.

“I think the concept of beauty is simply an idea of self-care,” she told Dazed Digital. “Everyone can have a different standard of ‘beautiful’ or ‘pretty,’ so I think it’s an idea of trying to present oneself according to their own standards. I guess it’s all for the self-satisfaction.”

When it comes to beauty, Kyung Park knows a thing or to. “As soon as I was old enough to go to high school and started learning about make-up, I knew I wanted to learn those skills at a beauty academy,” she admitted. “After a while studying make-up at the academy, I realized I wasn’t very interested anymore. That’s when my teacher suggested trying nail art.”

With more than 350k followers on Instagram, there’s no slowing her down.
