]]>“I mainly draw my inspiration from my own experiences, beliefs, and development throughout my career,” she adds. “The objects I chose to draw are everyday objects but with a slight stylistic or simplistic differences, making them eternal in a way as they never really go ‘out of fashion’ or become unpopular.”
Indeed, her work makes for an interesting fashion statement, drawing quite a massive fanbase (on Instagram alone she has amassed more than 210k followers). But when it comes to her career path, her road was a meandering one – having first gained attention on Tumblr, where she would post photos of her illustrations and tattoos.
“From the positive feedback it got from everyone I started taking appointments and working from my home and studio spaces,” she recalled. “There’s a certain normalized order within the tattoo industry where you gotta first do an apprenticeship, learn all the different styles and then you get the chair and get to develop your own individual style. But this was different to me as I didn’t do an apprenticeship so my style simply developed from the beginning through my own inspiration, meaning rather than everyone walking around with the same designs, people get new and interesting designs, rather than just going to a standard studio, picking a design from the portfolio and ending up leaving with the ‘H & M of tattoos.’”

]]>“I’m constantly inspired by the world around me,” admits Lee in an interview with Flaunt. “I never know when I’ll be inspired. It could be of a sculpture made of spider webs then maybe I could be enamored by the trash I see floating down the drain. I’ve also noticed that inspiration is a perspective. I could see something one day and feel nothing at all then see it again in a different light and it would be everything to me.”
Her inspirations resulted in a plethora of personas, with much experimentation. “I’ve been through a few identity shifts in the last 6 years of my internet kingdom before becoming Princess Gollum,” she explained. “Princess Gollum is someone you don’t want to mess with. She’s still sweet and kind but she’s tougher than ever now, she knows what’s going on and she must be respected and protected at all costs.”

Jump forward some years later and their online brand, ChattyFeet, now features more than 30 original sock designs, created by designers all over the globe. Their socks feature celebrity guests such as David Sock-Knee and Vincent Van Toe, meant to inspire your creative juices (because having cold feet never helps).
“It usually starts with the name,” Kahana and De Sousa further explained in an interview with Yes I’m a Designer. “We love to use puns like ‘The Sockfather’ or ‘David Sock-Knee’. Then we commission the character illustration and wait for sketches, give feedback, get revisions and repeat until we have a design we’re happy to produce.”

“Since I am making everything by hand, I remain close to my collection because each piece undoubtedly has its own unique variation,” she explained in an interview with Rue Magazine. “Also, because of all the different mediums I work with, I am able to go back and forth between materials and processes to break up some of the repetition.”
“I started out painting shirts with bleach as a fun craft that quickly grew into a production of painting designs in multiples,” she recalled. “I focused my background in fine art towards creating art that you can wear because it was important to me to make art a daily expression. I believe dressing yourself to feel like you are actually wearing a piece of art promotes confidence.”

Luckily, she survived, but her right leg had to be amputated. “After my amputation, I was left with so many scars,” she shared with The Standard’s blog. “So, for me personally, I had trouble accepting a new body and loving it. And I went on a journey of trying to get to a place where I felt happy, but little did I know that I would bring so many people on that journey with me.”
Now, she uses social media as a platform to talk about body positivity, dismantling the image of what people with disabilities should be or look like. “When it comes to body positivity, it’s not something that I was raised to embrace,” she says. “I think a lot of us are raised in societies where body shaming is a norm. If you don’t look a certain way, you’re not accepted or you’re asked to change.”

]]>The Paris-born, Brooklyn-based beauty guru came to New-York at the age of 19, with the goal of making it big in the fashion industry. And boy did she succeed. Since studying art and fashion, and nailing a job at Estée Lauder she turned her focus to YouTube and Instagram, passing on her knowledge to others.
“I woke up one morning and I always scroll down Instagram when I wake up after my meditations, and I was seeing all these tutorials and I thought, damn, I don’t relate to any of them,” she recalled in an interview with the Pardon My French podcast. “I am sure there are other women like me who don’t relate to all the contouring and all the makeup. It’s so pretty seeing a woman do her makeup, maybe there is something poetic about it.”
“In France we learn how to take care of what we have, what Mother Nature gave us,” she explains. “We don’t do blow dryers or crazy hair, but we’ll do an incredible conditioner and hair masks. We won’t do tons of treatments and filler but we will do a wonderful facial every week and eat healthy.”
