Ben Young is a former boat builder and avid surfer who\nmanaged to translate his love for the ocean into a passionate art calling. This\nNew Zealand-native self-taught artist builds stunning glass sculptures that are\ninspired by the ocean and appreciated by art enthusiasts all over the world. \n\n\n\n
Each of Young’s sculptures is completely handmade. He begins\nthe process with a drawing, then cuts the glass by hand and laminates layer by\nlayer in order to get the desired form. \n\n\n\n
“I do a lot of thinking before I even start to draw or\ncut,” \u2013 says Young.\n\n\n\n
This is a complicated and long process causing Young to\nadapt as the artwork is being created. \n\n\n\n
“I work with 2D shapes and have to figure out how to\ntranslate that into a 3D finished piece. Sometimes my starting point changes\ndramatically as I have to find a way to layer the glass to create certain\nshapes.” \u2013 he adds. \n\n\n\n
All the effort is well worth it, however, as the finished\npieces look stunning. Check out some of them below. \n\n\n\n
