What first drew us to Kelly Abeln was her candid approach to illustration. Her autobiographical comics turns the most mundane things into bite-sized illustration that pack a punch. Based in Minneapolis, MN, Abeln freelances full-time from her home studio, working on a variety of illustration and design projects for clients, alongside her more personal projects.

Part of the pitch packet for my graphic memoir is this character sheet. It introduces the main characters in a visual way and has some key details called out. I also can picture this being in the beginning of the book. I feel like I’m making progress now that I’m doing sample pages. I was feeling stuck when I was working on the text and story, but now that I’m working on visuals I have momentum! #graphicmemoir #graphicnovel #pitchpackage #autobiocomics
